Itinerario

Day 1.- Cusco – Ajanaco – Pilcopata PARAISO INN LODGE

We will depart from Cusco in the morning in a private vehicle, ascending into the Andes until we reach 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level. Along the way, we will visit the chullpas of Ninamarca, an ancient pre-Inca cemetery, and the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo, known for its traditional architecture and the famous Virgen del Carmen festival.

Next, we will arrive at Ajanaco, the entrance to Manu National Park, where we will begin our descent through the cloud forest, a fascinating ecosystem filled with lush vegetation such as orchids, heliconia’s, bromeliads, and primitive ferns. This habitat is home to a great diversity of birds, including the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Peru’s national bird), the Andean motmot, the golden-headed quetzal, and colorful tanagers.

In the high jungle or cloud forest, we will take our first walk to observe the area’s incredible biodiversity up close. This ecosystem is known for its high concentration of medicinal plants, many of which remain unstudied. During the hike, we may witness the impressive mating ritual of the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock and spot various bird species. With some luck, we might also see the woolly monkey, commonly found in the area, and even the elusive spectacled bear, the only native bear species in South America.

In the afternoon, we will arrive at our eco-lodge, a traditional accommodation with available bathrooms and showers, where we will spend our first night fully immersed in nature.

Day 2.- Pilcopata PARAISO INN LODGE – Atalaya port – AMAZON PERÚ lodge

After breakfast, we will continue our journey with a hike through the lowland jungle, where we will observe a variety of birds such as macaws, orioles, woodpeckers, and vultures, as well as groups of monkeys. Then, we will arrive at Atalaya Port, where our boat will be waiting to take us along the Alto Madre de Dios River to our next lodge. The boat ride will last approximately 45 minutes, during which we may spot capybaras, monkeys, peccaries, and caimans. Upon arrival, you will be assigned your rooms, fully equipped with all necessary amenities.

Afternoon Exploration
After lunch, we will embark on a hike through the dense jungle, searching for monkeys, sloths, anteaters, and other fascinating species. Our guide will uncover the secrets of the tropical rainforest, sharing insights about the medicinal plants used by the local population. This hike will last approximately 3 hours.

Night Activity: Jungle Exploration
At night, we will venture into the rainforest trails on an exciting night walk. During the trek, we will observe exotic insects, colorful amphibians, and, if we’re lucky, snakes and caimans.

Day 3.- AMAZON PERÚ lodge – Parrot and Macaw Clay Lick – Trail ceiva and lake Machuwasi.

Early in the morning, we will board our boat and travel down the Alto Madre de Dios River for about 20 minutes until we reach the clay lick of parrots and small macaws. Every morning, large flocks of parrots, parakeets, and macaws gather here to feed on the mineral-rich clay along the riverbank, which helps with digestion and neutralizes toxins from the fruits and seeds they consume.

After this amazing wildlife experience, we will enjoy breakfast on the river beach, surrounded by breathtaking scenery—an unforgettable moment.

Next, we will explore the jungle, searching for monkeys, peccaries, tapirs, and a wide variety of exotic birds on a 3 to 4-hour hike. After our adventure, we will return to our lodge for a delicious lunch and a short rest.

In the afternoon, we will venture deep into the dense jungle to visit the beautiful Machuwasi Lake. To enter, we will use a small canoe made of floating wood, gliding peacefully across the water while observing the incredible wildlife that inhabits the lake, including colorful birds, mammals, and caimans.

Day 4.- AMAZON PERÚ lodge – Atalaya port – Cusco (Hotel)

After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our return journey to Cusco. We will board our boat back to Atalaya Port, where our private transportation will be waiting to take us back.

Along the way, we will once again pass through the mysterious cloud forest and the high Andean zone, enjoying breathtaking landscapes until we reach the Imperial City of Cusco.

The return trip will take approximately 8 hours, with stops for lunch, restroom breaks, and, if we’re lucky, to observe wildlife along the route.

Estimated arrival time: 7:00 p.m.
