Choquequirao trek to Machupicchu 8 Days / 7 Night

The 8-day Choquequirao to Machu Picchu trek is an epic adventure that takes you through some of Peru’s most breathtaking and ancient landscapes. Beginning in Choquequirao, Machu Picchu’s “sister city”, you will explore the majestic Inca ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the Andean peaks. Throughout the journey, you will immerse yourself in the local culture, interacting with indigenous communities and learning about their ancestral traditions. Continuing along remote and challenging trails, you will traverse deep valleys, steep canyons and lush rainforests. Each step will take you closer to the legendary Machu Picchu, the archaeological jewel of the Incas. Finally, you will arrive at Machu Picchu, where you will be rewarded with the sight of this wonder of the ancient world. You will explore the ancient ruins, marveling at the ingenious architecture and fascinating history of this sacred site. This 8-day trek is a transformative experience that will take you through a variety of landscapes and immerse you in the rich history and culture of the Peruvian Andes. Itinerary

DAY 01: CUSCO – QACHORA – SANTA ROSA

Our tour starts in Cusco city at 5.30 am, we will take our private tourist bus to Cachora, until the area of Capulichayoq. Around 10.00 am we begin the walk towards the lookout Wanka Qalli, from where we will appreciate a section of the archeological complex of Choquequirao, along with one of most beautiful views of the snow peaks of Vilcabamba and Salqantay chico. We will continue the walk downhill to Cuca Masana. We will notice how the flora will change, lunch in Chiquisqa, then we descent all the way down to the Apurimac river the valley floor, place called “Playa Rosalina” The Rosalina beach. After a deserved rest, we will hike up hill until we get to Santa Rosa for our first night camp.

DAY 02: SANTA ROSA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO

After a delicious breakfast and a taste of the local Canazo (sugar cane liquor) that is produced locally. We will continue until Uchú huerta, around noon we enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our Andean chef, in Choquequirao. During our hike we will enjoy a great variety of fauna and flora, and as part of the exploration we will climb up to the ceremonial platform of Choquequirao, called Ushno, then we will go to the lama’s sector, we will see the Inkan water channels, different amount of other interesting things. We will spend our second night camp.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – MAIZAL

Early in the morning we will visit Phaqchayuq Inkan terraces, we return to our camp site for breakfast. After a nutritious breakfast we will hike up hill for an hour and then we descent to Rio Blanco valley, where we can enjoy a refreshing bath in the crystallin waters of the river. After lunch we will keep walking until Maizal site arriving at 16.00 pm, great chance to see the sunset over the Andes.

DAY 4: MAIZAL – YANAMA

This morning we begin our walk through a dense vegetation of the humid forest, a unique hiking experience as we will be walking on an original Inkan Trail, a bonus is the observation of the flying Condors in the sky. Lunch near of Victoria old mines, an impressive panoramic scenario, with 4150 m.a.s.l. in the afternoon we descent towards the charming Andean village of Yanama, an Andean community where we will share our dinner in a local family, 3900 m.a.s.l camping night in this village.

DAY 5: YANAMA – TOTORA

Today is the challenging day, for 3 hours we will go up the mountain until the summit, an amazing scenario surrounded by glaciers, we reach Pumasillu (the small feline pass 4520 meters high) then we descent until our lunch spot, an amazing view of the cloud forest, we will continue our walk until we get to our camp in T’otora.

DAY 6: TOTORA – SANTA TERESA

After a traditional breakfast, we get into a tropical forest, where we will appreciate, waterfalls from the glaciers, endemic flora and fauna, until we get to Sahuayacu beach, time for lunch, farewell to our horsemen crew with their horses & mules, the horsemen will return back to Cachora, the place where we started the trek. The guide and the professional chef will come along with you until Santa Teresa by local bus. Time to enjoy a relaxing bath in the famous thermal waters. Overnight in a campsite.

DAY 7: SANTA TERESA – MACHUPICCHU PUEBLO

Today a splendid walk among the nature, waterfalls, coffee and coca plantations. After a nutritious breakfast, our tour guide will show you the way for about three hours hike until we arrive to hydroelectric train station for lunch. the next part of the trek consists of 3 more hours all the way along the rail line until AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN (hot springs town) The trek finishes at the hotel. Optional activity of Canopying after an additional cost.

DÍA 8: MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

The most expected day of the tour, very early in the morning at 4:30am we start the hike up to Machupicchu Inkan city. A challenge of 1300 steps that connect Machupicchu from the river side through the jungle. It will be 1 hour and half time until we finish the climb. We will go through the check point at 6.00 am and hoping the admire the sunrise in Machupicchu we start entering into the Inkan complex. After the natural experience our guide will proceed to explain and lead you through this magnificent and mystical place for about 2 hours.  You will have plenty of time to explore the site by yourself afterwards, always bearing in mind the train time table return.

Finally, we will take the train from Machupicchu village to Ollantaytambo and a tourist bus from AITA PERU will drive you to the city of Cusco city. The additional service of the day (optional) is the ascent to Huaynapicchu. Ask us about the availability.
