Translated into Spanish Choquequiraw means “cradle of gold”, is located in the foothills of Mount Salcantay, this archaeological complex consists of enclosures and terraces, all spread over an area of 20 hectares approximately. Even the architecture is not the classical Inca style but the uniqueness of its location in a special microclimate makes this place to be called the sister of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Here we can still observe the flight of the condor and the presence of wildlife such us puma.
CUSCO – QACHORA – SANTA ROSA. Our journey begin in the city of Cusco at 5.30 to the district Qachora tourist bus, after breakfast start trekking down to the viewpoint capuliyoc, from there we can see a part of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, plus a beautiful view of the snowy Vilcabamba and Salcantay range mountain . Then we descend to the sector called Coca Masana, flora and fauna there begins to vary, called Ch’iqisqa. So we descend to the river Apurimac area called “playa Rosalina”, after a relax and enjoy the charms of this valley, we will climb uphill to Santa Rosa, in this place we spend our first night in camp.
SANTA ROSA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO. After have a delicious breakfast and try a nice local cane liquor “chambray”, we go to the Uchú Huerta sector. At noon we will have our lunch prepared by our Andean chef in the place called Marampata, during our tour we will observe orchids and variety of flora and fauna. In the afternoon we arrive at the Inca citadel of Choquequiraw, and spend this night in camping.
CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHI’IQUISQA. Like every morning our typical breakfast will be waiting for us to enjoy admiring the Andean landscapes, then we start our walk in the Inca citadel of Choquequiraw, after visiting Phaqchayuq sector, we will return to our base camp for the lunch, in the afternoon we will continue with our tour in the citadel and we will visit religious, administrative, sectors, etc.. In the afternoon we will return to Chi’iquisqa, where we spend the third night.
CHI’IQUISQA – CUSCO. We wake up with a local family and share our breakfast. After the breakfast in the morning we will begin the ascent to the view point Capuliyuq, from the here you can see the canyon formed by the river Apurimac, considered the most spectacular in South America and with luck you will able see the majestic flight of the Condor. Then return to the city of Cusco, arriving around 5:00 pm.
